101 Chodyangal (2013) - Review Roundup

They say the most amazing of things come in small sizes, and Minon vouchsafes this fact. This astonishing child actor astounds you with a spellbinding performance that not for a moment, spills over into the melodramatic. Justly deserving every honor that has come his way, he is the soul of '101 Chodyangal', and sturdily carries the entire film across, on his petite shoulders. (Read more)

The performances from the entire cast need to be appreciated, especially the characters played by Murugan, Minon and Indrajith. 101 Chodyangal may have its shortcomings, but it succeeds in making a definite impression. Though the story is being told through the eyes of a child, this one is for viewers of all ages. Go for this film! (Read more)

It is believed that a child's smile can wipe out all your sorrows. A simple story through an unfortunate child's mind directed with finesse and enacted by brilliant actors. Dr V.P Gangadharan, the well known oncologist, has a single stellar scene in the movie the significance would be known by its end. Please see the film as we need to encourage such good films but be prepared to be touched. (Read more)

Actor-turned-director Sidhartha Siva blends soulfully the parallel quests, scripting to near perfection a simple tale with deep echoes. (The National Award for Best First Film of a Director was, no doubt, well-earned.) 101 Chodyangal is full of such instances, straight out of life, simple yet profound. No, this is not just a children’s film. It is, instead, one of growing up, of the bond between parents and children, of teachers who take learning beyond classrooms. (Read more)

The performances from all in the cast are excellent with Master Minon just making everything work with his little smiles on crisis. His spellbinding performance helps the movie to carry the entire weight of its loaded questions in his tender shoulders. Indrajith as his teacher and Lena as his mother comes up in finer roles while the rest in the cast are optimum for their roles. (Read more)
